The Global Workforce:  The Essentials for the HR Professional with a Multi-National Workforce

Wednesday, April 18th

7:30 - 8:00:  Registration & Networking

8:00 - 10:00:  Program

Presented by Trent Sutton, Shareholder, Littler Global

Location:  Landsman Development Corporation 3 Townline Circle, Rochester, NY 14623

This program has been pre-approved by the Society for Human Resource Management for 1.5 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) and 1.5 Global recertification credits by the HR Certification Institute.  Please note that HRCI Global credits count toward PHR and SPHR credit requirements.

In today’s global economy, HR professionals are often tasked with addressing, understanding, and undertaking multi-national or global employment issues.  This area is fraught with pitfalls for the HR advisor who is unaware of the distinctions in employment practices and obligations across the globe.  By the end of this session, participants will have a better understanding of the questions to ask and the risks to consider when dealing with employees or dependent contractors outside of the United States.

By the end of this session, participants will:
 - Compare and contrast the US employment at-will doctrine with foreign approaches to employment
 - Understand some of the regional differences in employee life cycle considerations with regard to hiring, discipline, and terminations
 - Address important pitfalls with regard to restructure, data privacy, and labor

About our Speaker:  Trent M. Sutton provides strategic advice and counsel to multinational employers on a wide range of international employment and compliance matters. He also serves as Office Managing Shareholder of Littler's Rochester, New York, office. Trent uses his experience and extensive international network to guide multinational employers on the intricacies associated with employment in multiple nations and the difficulties associated with conflicting jurisdictional obligations.
