About our Program:
With each ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court continues to shape how HR does its work. Recent Supreme Court rulings on issues ranging from class-action waivers to whistle-blower protections may bring significant changes to the workplace. Using a fun and interesting approach, this session will examine key employment law decisions, the court’s rationale, the long-term implications and, most importantly, how the decision will affect employers. This session will also address how the recent appointments of Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, as well as the age and health of other justices, will affect the future of the court. During this program, participants will:Review a brief history of the US Supreme Court;Discuss the potential impact the two most recent appointments to the Court may have on future decisions;Learn how the Court impacts the role of HR professionals;Gain a better understanding of the potential impact recent Court decisions may have on business, and HR specifically;Find out what upcoming cases to watch in the 2018-2019 session.
About our Speaker:
Frank Cania is president and founder of HR Compliance Experts LLC, a consulting firm specializing in employment law and regulatory compliance. Frank earned an MS in employment law and maintains dual professional certifications; Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) through the HR Certification institute, and Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) through the Society for Human Resource Management. In addition, Frank also holds a certificate in workplace investigations (AWI-CH) from the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI).
One of Frank’s proudest professional moments was providing expert witness testimony to the House of Representatives’ Small Business Committee, in 2017. He regularly presents on compliance-related topics, writes a monthly HR column for the NY Daily Record newspaper, and has taught college-level employment law classes. Frank’s volunteer roles include NYS SHRM federal advocacy director, and SHRM National Advocacy Team Captain and Labor Relations Panel member.
Frank and his wife Becky have two grown children, Blake and Ellie, and in 2018 became first-time grandparents to Connor.
