HR Generalist

This job has a dual role of supporting Rochester Chamber employees from an internal HR standpoint, as well as supporting Rochester Chamber members through the HR Services duties.

 

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
I.  Internal HR:
  • Responsible for the entire employee life cycle from hiring to termination, including new hire paperwork, handbook review and benefits orientation, employee relations issues, terminations and exit interviews. 
  • Maintain employee files and HR data.
  • Administers employee benefits and maintains legal compliance for a variety of insurances including medical, dental, life, 401K, PFL, FMLA, ADA, as well as workers’ compensation, disability, unemployment.
  • Responsible for ensuring online timecards are approved by employees and managers each week.
  • Process payroll twice a month
  • Administers programs, policies, practices and activities that support management’s efforts including job descriptions, handbook and policy/benefit reviews.
  • Assist with training and development activities, performance appraisal process, etc.
  • Coordinates employee activities such AED training or defensive driving seminars.
II. HR Services:

  • Manage Friday HR Briefings including coordination of speakers, determine topics, as well as preparation, handout copies, and room setup.
  • HR Services duties including responding to member HR helpline inquiries, participate in HR forum meetings and assist with preparation, assist with custom survey projects, assist with labor law guide and survey sales processing, Salesforce membership database entries/registrations, etc.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s in Human Resources or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of applicable human resource generalist experience preferred, with solid understanding of key human resources areas.
  • Experience with payroll processing preferred, especially Paychex Flex.
  • Well versed in and able to apply knowledge of NYS and federal labor laws
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, comfortable with Internet research and use of technology in general.
  • Professional Human Resources certification a plus
Fast-paced work environment that requires the ability to multi-task and shift gears at a moment’s notice. Strong focus on both internal and external customer service and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
