Looking back on our careers, most of us can easily recall the best boss we’ve had. We can also remember the worst boss. The memory of these two individuals stands out prominently. We’re confident that they had very different impacts.
We just completed a research study where we asked hundreds of people with varying levels of experience where they described the attributes of their best and worst bosses. The descriptions were heartfelt, rich in detail, and insightful. The themes that emerged are consistent and compelling. Based on the data, we have a Top 10 List of what best bosses do, and conversely a Top 10 List of worst bosses. And we also now know which of the worst boss attributes are the most likely to cause an employee to quit.
This one-hour, interactive session will begin with a reflection about the best and worst bosses. Then, we’ll introduce our Top 10 lists. We will then facilitate a discussion about how to become a best boss and stop performing the characteristics of a worst boss. By the end, participants will understand why being a best boss matters, know what constitutes a best and worst boss, and have some practical ideas so that they can be a best boss.
